SUMMARY:Building Performance Standards: A Win-Win Scenario
DESCRIPTION:Join the City of Grand Rapids\, GR2030 District\, and Urban Core Collective as we launch the Equitable\, Healthy Zero Carbon Building (E.H.Zero) virtual series. The E.H.Zero initiative aims to equitably achieve affordability\, positive health outcomes\, and resilience while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions in buildings. The desired outcome of E.H.Zero is to co-create policies & programs with our community that will transform our city and create long-term impacts for substantive change. \nWith building operation emissions accounting for nearly 30% of the globe’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions\, it is befitting to look at the management of building operations as a key player in reducing our collective GHGs. Dozens of municipalities are incorporating Building Performance Standards (BPS) as an avenue to achieve robust community GHG reductions. In its simplest form\, BPS set targets overtime to make measurable reductions using metrics such as energy use\, carbon\, etc. This webinar will answer how Grand Rapids could benefit from integrating BPS\, and discuss key example cities to visualize how this could be implemented in our city. \nJoin Tara Brown\, City Solutions Manager at Institute for Market Transformation\, Ben Rabe\, Project Manager with the Codes and Policy Team at New Building Institute\, and panelist peer stakeholders to learn what BPS is and how it has worked for cities similar to Grand Rapids. \n[su_spacer] \n[su_button url=”https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ySvJ24vdQiyYE87h4SIZkg” target=”blank” style=”glass” background=”#71b5d9″ color=”#000000″ size=”10″]Register Here[/su_button] \n[su_button url=”https://migbc.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/E.H.Zero-Webinar-Series-Flyer-2.pdf” target=”blank” style=”glass” background=”#71b5d9″ color=”#000000″ size=”10″]Download Flyer[/su_button]

SUMMARY:Doing WELL: A Walk Through the WELL™ Suite of Healthy Building Rating Systems
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, Jeff Hochberg\, WELL AP\, LEED GA\, WELL Faculty\, will walk attendees through the evolution of the WELL Building Standard.  Starting with the creation of the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI)\, and the first WELL Certification for single buildings\, the WELL ecosystem quickly grew to include the standard’s first at-scale solution\, the “WELL Portfolio” program\, followed by the current suite of rating systems\, “WELL Health-Safety\,” “WELL Performance\,” and “WELL Health Equity” (coming late 2022). These more recent rating systems strategically address the multiple needs of organizations in a post-COVID-19 environment.   \nJeff will break down each of the WELL Rating systems in detail and will highlight the building types and industry sectors (higher education\, multi-family residential\, hospitality\, airports\, sports\, and entertainment\, etc.) that lend themselves to each. \nDespite the explosive growth WELL has experienced since 2020\, potential WELL projects are often declined due to a false perception that the added cost would be prohibitive and bring minimal return to the developer or project owner.  However\, published case studies by the early adopters of WELL demonstrate otherwise\, and have shown measurable improvement in productivity\, absenteeism\, retention\, and hiring ability.  Real estate developers who offer healthy buildings are charging measurably higher rents while at the same time\, achieving higher occupancy rates\, and investors are channeling more of their funding to organizations that promote healthy cultures including healthy workplaces.   \nJeff will conclude with an overview of the incremental increased investment that WELL projects incur\, and selected case study outcomes that demonstrate WELL’s potential for delivering a positive return on that investment. \n  \nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand the scientific research-based evolution of the WELL Building Standard\nUnderstand the WELL Rating systems\, their differences\, and the sectors they best lend themselves to\nUnderstand the business case\, i.e.\, both the costs and the benefits of attaining WELL\n\n  \n[su_button url=”https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/1416522860048/WN_TD1Hi7GDQJKVtp8CVc0Vxg” color=”#ffffff” size=”8″]Register Here[/su_button] \n  \nAbout the Presenter \nJeff Hochberg is a Senior Consultant on the Healthy Building Solutions team at Catalyst Partners\, a leader in the design of high-performance buildings and interiors that have a positive impact on the environment\, the communities around them\, and the health and lives of the people who occupy them. \nJeff has an M.S. in Exercise Physiology\, is credentialed as both a WELL AP and LEED GA\, and has spent over 35 years in the field of health\, wellness\, and population health management\, serving in leadership roles within the corporate\, hospital\, health plan\, public not-for-profit\, and consulting sectors.\n\nAlong with Jeff’s WELL AP credential\, which signifies knowledge in human health and wellness in the built environment and specialization in the WELL Building Standard\, Jeff is a member of the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) WELL Faculty and serves on the IWBI Movement Concept Advisory panel.\n\nJeff has led WELL projects in the corporate\, real estate\, and academic sectors\, guiding organizations through the steps of evaluating projects for WELL\, identifying the optimum WELL rating system(s) based on organizational needs and vision\, building the stakeholder team\, and implementing the steps to WELL.

SUMMARY:Get a Handle on Hygiene: Aqueous Ozone as an Emerging Healthy Building Technology
DESCRIPTION:Hand Hygiene hasn’t seen much innovation in many years. That’s about to change – meet Iggy™\, a hand-rinsing device that when used as part of an overall approach to health and wellbeing\, significantly enhances (or supplements\, increases) the effectiveness of hand hygiene programs aimed at reducing the risk of transmission of infectious microbes (or germs).”  Iggy uses aqueous ozone technology to sanitize hands in 7 seconds\, providing a safe and natural cleaning\, free from soap and chemicals.  Aqueous ozone is a potent but safe\, natural disinfectant. Research shows that aqueous ozone eradicates bacteria\, fungi\, and viruses (including coronavirus and influenza) on a variety of surfaces. \nIn this webinar\, Chris Thompson\, Chief Technology Officer of 3oe Scientific will discuss the plethora of benefits that this technology has to offer for a variety of building types. These benefits include: \n\nMeeting your sustainability goals with reduced water consumption and reduction of landfill waste.\nSaving money with the reduction of soap/sanitizer use.\nEnhanced health & wellness objectives and absenteeism reduction with improved infection control.\nIncreased productivity through time saved sanitizing hands.\nIggy™ is a “smart device” that tracks usage via RFI and communicates when service is needed.\n\nHealthy buildings need healthy building practices. Technologies like this make reaching health\, wellness\, and sustainability goals simpler through individual action that can be tracked and monitored. \n[su_button url=”https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_4GxffsRxR6q-X8tBr5qKXg” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#71b5d9″ color=”#ffffff” size=”6″]Register Here[/su_button]

SUMMARY:Know your Rating Systems: Exploring Green Globes and BREEAM
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar exploring Green Globes and BREEAM! Green Globes and BREEAM are both green building assessment tools designed to help owners and operators interactively manage their buildings through third-party assessments. \nAs a nationally recognized green building rating program\, Green Globes works with building owners to help with sustainability goals for new constructions\, existing buildings\, and interiors. The rating system could help buildings reduce operating costs\, receive incentives through rebates\, retain and attract talent\, and increase marketability. They provide in-depth support to help manage these goals.  \nWe will also be discussing The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method\, or BREEAM. BREEAM aims to achieve zero net carbon\, use data to aid decision-making\, and make a positive impact. Backed by science\, BREEAM helps businesses improve each pillar of sustainability; environmental\, social\, and economic. There are 12 assessment categories with 6 different ratings. New constructions\, retrofits\, in-use\, and community-wide scopes are all supported.  \nOur speakers Emily Bowers\, Director of State and Local Engagement at GBI\, Nina Armstrong\, Manager in Client Services & Engagement at GBI\, and Allan Robles\, Senior Consultant at BRE will walk us through these lesser-discussed building rating systems and answer if these products are right for your project. \n[su_button url=”https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_32-r4J1cSNesDIgD_Vjrhg” target=”blank” style=”flat” background=”#71b5d9″ color=”#ffffff” size=”6″]Register Here[/su_button]

SUMMARY:Beyond Homes: Phius Passive Building Certification for your Business
DESCRIPTION:Description  \n“Zero is the goal\, Phius is the means.” Passive House Institute US (Phius) originated in the US and Canada in the ‘70’s\, was enhanced in Germany in the ’90’s\, and reinvigorated in the US in 2003 when Katrin Klingenberg designed and completed the first home to meet passive house standards in the United States. Phius is driven by carbon neutrality and improving the standard of building construction. Phius updated its standard in 2021 to meet stringent efficiency and carbon neutrality goals to make buildings the building block of the 21st century electrical grid: resilient\, digitized\, distributed\, and interactive. \nIn this webinar\, Katrin (Kat) Klingenberg\, Executive Director & Co-Founder Phius\, and Doug Farr\, President of Farr Associates Architecture and Urban Design\, will walk us through the Passive house certification process\, commercial building examples\, and how green & healthy building certifications should work together and not be siloed. \nSpeaker Bios \nKat’s home sparked considerable interest and she went on to found Phius\, dedicated to making passive building a mainstream best practice. She developed and delivered building-science based training in how to design and build energy efficient and zero energy buildings. Over the past ten years she has collaborated with federal and state governments’ agencies to tailor the Phius Standard for each of the nine US and ASHRAE’s global climate zones—that adaptation cost-optimized passive building and has driven widespread adoption. She has consulted on projects nationally and internationally. \nDoug is a nationally-recognized architect\, urbanist\, and author. He leads Chicago-based Farr Associates\, a pioneering\, sustainability-driven architecture and urban design firm that plans and designs lovable and aspirational buildings and places. The firm was recognized by the New York Times as “the most prominent of the city’s growing cadre of ecologically sensitive architects.” The firm prides itself on its pioneering “firsts” in high-performance buildings in the Chicago region including LEED Platinum\, PHIUS Net Zero\, and LBC.  In 2020 Doug launched Carbon Free Chicago\, a 30-year campaign for the equitable transition away from fossil fuels. In 2022 Doug Co-Curated the ENERGY REVOLUTION exhibit at the Chicago Architecture Center\, which closes January 10th\, 2023 \n  \nRegister by clicking here or with the like below:

SUMMARY:Occupancy-Based Strategic Energy Management Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Occupancy-Based Strategic Energy Management Webinar\nWith Consumers Energy and Waypoint Energy \nPanelist: Brian Keller\, Manager at Waypoint Energy \nIntro: We would like to invite you to join the Consumers Energy Occupancy-Based Strategic Energy Management (OB SEM) team as they discuss methods of saving energy in your office and retail spaces.  Employees that used to work in the office full-time now might only spend a few days each week onsite\, while organizational needs require corporate occupiers to have more space available than they can use on a given workday. While most office workers have transitioned to hybrid work from home/in-office models\, energy use in commercial office buildings has dropped very minimally from pre-pandemic levels. If your operating procedures are designed around pre-pandemic work norms\, you are likely paying for unnecessary energy use. Learn how the Consumers Energy OBSEM Program can help you address occupancy shifts in office buildings at a portfolio level. This free program will evaluate occupancy\, vacancy\, and energy use at each of your office sites to identify operational savings measures as well as capital projects that are eligible for Consumers Energy incentives.\n  \nRegister here or with the link below.
