SUMMARY:GVSU Sustainable Agriculture Project - volunteering and more
DESCRIPTION:The Sustainable Agriculture Project is a physical place\, and a scientific station\, where students can go to research plants\, the environment\, human-environmental interaction\, systems thinking\, and community. It is also a laboratory in that it is a space where students can get their hands dirty while learning quantitative and critical thinking skills relating to soil\, water\, plant life\, climate change\, and the environment. It is also a working studio space and gallery for artists\, a field site with a ready-made community of people on a small working farm perfect for sociological study. It is also a business that produces and sells food to support the activities of the SAP. \nCheck out this SAP Site Walk video! \nThe SAP will exhibit place-based sculptures on Thursday\, April 18th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Come and see student creations inspired by the land! \nThe SAP will also host a traditional Land Blessing on Friday\, April 19th from 4:00 – 6 pm. Volunteering is from 4:00 to 5:30 PM\, followed by the Land Blessing and Drum Performance by the West Michigan Jewels of West Africa from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. DESCRIPTION:April 30\, 2024 – May 1\, 2024\n9:00 AM-5:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere the Midwest green building community unites\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe annual IMPACT Conference is the leading event for sustainable development in the Midwest. Drawing hundreds of building professionals\, the conference convenes our industry to transform the market and address pressing issues. \nIMPACT 2024 will focus on solutions and scale. We will examine how we meet the urgent challenges of this moment\, including the need for rapid decarbonization and an overhaul in our supply chain\, and explore the role of the built environment in promoting the health of our communities. \nTaking place over two days\, April 30-May 1\, IMPACT will include the option to attend one of two tours – either the SITES Certified Treetop Trail at the Minnesota Zoo or RBC Gateway\, which is tracking LEED certification – a Women in Green Luncheon\, a workshop on “Adaption and Resilience: Scalable Actions for Building to Communities\,” and a networking happy hour. DESCRIPTION:Do you design\, develop\, own\, manage\, or operate a commercial or industrial building in the city of Grand Rapids? E.H.Zero’s Commercial Climate Advisory Team (C-CAT)\, in partnership with the City of Grand Rapids\, the Grand Rapids 2030 District\, the Community Collaboration on Climate Change\, and the Sustainable Business Forum\, invites you to identify and prioritize strategies and actions for inclusion in the Commercial Buildings chapter of the City of Grand Rapids Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). This chapter will include strategies and action items that will reduce energy consumption/GHG emissions and increase climate resilience for commercial and industrial businesses located in the city of Grand Rapids. \nAt this event\, City staff and partners will review a draft of the Commercial Building chapter of the CAAP\, which the C-CAT helped create and includes strategies to: \n\nCreate and sustain the infrastructure\, information and engagement needed to reduce energy and emissions from commercial buildings\nReduce existing commercial building energy consumption\nEnsure the design and construction of high-performing commercial buildings that are low to zero-emissions\nSupport on-site installation or procurement of renewable energy systems (included in the Energy chapter of the CAAP)\n\nWe will also discuss the best way to embed the CAAP’s key themes of equity\, economic prosperity\, health\, resilience and collaboration in the Commercial Buildings Chapter. \nOur goal is to engage as diverse of an audience as possible; please limit registration to no more than two representatives from the same organization. \nLunch will be provided. \nRegister Here. \nDownload Flyer.
